Privacy Policy

Effective date: 4 May 2026 · Last updated: 11 September 2026

This Privacy Policy describes how Becoming (“the App”, “we”, “us”) collects, uses, and protects information when you use our mobile application on iOS and Android.

By installing or using Becoming, you agree to this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Information you provide directly

  • Account information: email address, password (encrypted), display name. Collected when you sign up with email or via Google Sign-In or Apple Sign-In.
  • Personalization answers: your responses to the onboarding questions (life direction, goals, desired feelings, demographics such as age range and gender, etc.).
  • Journal entries: text, photos, and tags you choose to save in the journal feature.
  • Photos and images: photos you capture with the camera or pick from your gallery for journal entries or personalized affirmation themes.
  • Customer support communications when you contact us.

1.2 Information collected automatically

  • Device identifiers needed to deliver push notifications (Firebase Cloud Messaging tokens).
  • Subscription and purchase information (managed via Adapty and the Apple App Store / Google Play Billing): product purchased, transaction status, expiry date, renewal status. We do not receive your full payment card details — those are handled by Apple or Google directly.
  • Locale and language preference for content delivery.

2. Permissions We Request and Why

  • CAMERA — To capture photos for your journal entries and to create personalized affirmation themes. Photos are processed on your device and only uploaded to your account if you explicitly save the entry.
  • System photo picker / Photos library — To let you select specific existing photos for journal entries and themes. On Android, Becoming uses the system photo picker and does not request broad access to your photo library.
  • POST_NOTIFICATIONS — To send you scheduled affirmation reminders and notifications you opt into.
  • SCHEDULE_EXACT_ALARM — To deliver affirmation reminders at the times you have selected when you enable scheduled reminders.
  • RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED — To restore your scheduled reminders after the device restarts.
  • FOREGROUND_SERVICE_MEDIA_PLAYBACK — To play affirmation audio in the background and show media controls in the notification shade.
  • VIBRATE — For haptic feedback within the app.
  • INTERNET — To sync your data with our servers and load content.

You can revoke any permission at any time in your device settings (Settings → Apps → Becoming → Permissions on Android, or Settings → Becoming on iOS).

3. How We Use Your Information

  • To create and authenticate your account.
  • To personalize affirmations and content based on your onboarding answers.
  • To save and synchronize your journal entries and progress across devices.
  • To deliver push notification reminders you have opted into.
  • To process and validate subscription purchases.
  • To improve the App’s reliability and fix bugs.
  • To respond to support requests.

We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your data for advertising or share it with advertisers.

4. Third-Party Services We Use

Becoming integrates the following third-party services. Each has its own privacy policy:

  • Google Firebase (Authentication, Cloud Firestore, Cloud Storage, Cloud Messaging) — privacy policy
  • Adapty (subscription management) — privacy policy
  • Google Sign-In — privacy policy
  • Apple Sign-In (iOS only) — privacy policy
  • Apple App Store / Google Play Billing for processing payments — your card data is handled directly by Apple or Google, not by us.

5. Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored on Google Firebase servers. We protect your information with industry-standard measures including TLS encryption in transit and encryption at rest. However, no method of transmission over the Internet is 100% secure.

Passwords are hashed by Firebase Authentication and we never see your plain-text password.

6. Data Retention

We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account — which you can do from inside the app, following the steps on Delete your account — we will delete your personal data from our active systems within 30 days. Some information may persist in encrypted backups for a limited period required by law.

7. Children’s Privacy

Becoming is not directed at children under 16 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us information, please contact us and we will delete it.

8. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Correct inaccurate data
  • Delete your data (“right to be forgotten”)
  • Export your data in a portable format
  • Withdraw consent at any time
  • Lodge a complaint with a data protection authority

To exercise any of these rights, email us at the address below.

9. International Transfers

Your data may be processed in countries outside your own (including the United States, where Google Firebase servers are located). We rely on the safeguards offered by Google’s standard contractual clauses for international transfers.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the new version here and update the “Last updated” date above. For significant changes we will notify you in-app or by email.
